CRIKEY!

Today we set off for Australia Zoo. The zoo run by Steve Irwin and his wife Terri before his death in 2006. We got up early and caught the train, however due to track work part of the journey had to be made by bus.

The zoo is slighty surreal with massive pictures of Steve Irwin everywhere and more utterances of the word 'Crikey' than I've ever seen. We start the day with the Alligators, Turtles and Galápagos Tortoises. Then we head to the Crocesum in anticipation of the Croc Show. As a special easter sunday treat the Croc show is being performed by Terri Irwin and Wes Mannion! The show starts with snakes and birds but then what everyone is waiting for... the Crocodile. Terri and Wes proceed to dangle bits of meat at the waters edge tempting the crocodile in and then making a speedy get away when it goes for the meat. This involves an amusing moment when Wes is trying to tempt the crocodile and as the crocodile attacks he utters "SHIT!... er... I mean crikey"... maybe you had to be there. We spend the rest of the day exploring the rest of the Zoo. We see Camels, Dingos, lots more Crocodiles, Kangaroos, Kolas, a Komodo Dragon, Elephants, Tigers, Red Pandas, Emus, a tasmanian devil (eventually... I started to suspect it was just an empty enclosure) and some other stuff.

It takes quite a while to get home as the train company has mucked up the replacement bus service (I've never felt more at home).
